haha it does look a bit like that. Oooh nasty fall... oooh can't put the heating on.... oooh got to ration my tobacco out etc etc

It was a ravine BTW. i.e the steep cut a small river has made. Strictly speaking. It wasn't near my house or it wouldn't have been dangerous would it? dur.

    I've got a country/winter question.

I've been out larking in the snow a fair bit last few days and my are toes nearly dropping off. I never had circulation problems before or felt anything like it and I have been in snow loads before any of you pensioners say anything about my age.

They actually hurt when I try to warm them up. To a point now where I don't want to go out for too long. Why is this only happening now?

One of the reasons the Germans were annihilated by the Russian winter was they had steel nails in their boots. Their feet kept dropping off. That and they had the wrong lubricant for most of their machinery which also froze.

Metal in boots is great for safety but the best conductor of cold or rather conductor of heat (from your feet outwards) so any metal at all in freezing conditions is inadvisable if not sheer lunacy.

I just fell through the ice on the river warfe trying to rescue my dog!

I can't feel my ball bag!

It's not that cold when you are in the water due to shock. But the walk home is both painful and embarrassing I have discovered.

The dog has uncharacteristically shown gratitude and keeps coming up to me as if to go "that was a close one".

I had to do it, there were people around and he was making pathetic noises.

Afterwards it was me making the noises, with less interested onlookers.

On the plus side I can't feel my bad ankle now. Or anything below the waist.

I have a sort of grudging admiration for timbot's pluck and outdoorsiness which I have seen first hand and been mildly sickened by in Ibiza.

On the other side of the coin his constant rubbishness makes me glad to be a total city slicker and hopeless gardener. And it is funny.
