Re: The Magic Box of Phosphers
I was gutted.
All the way through I was saying 'this is wrong, it's like Ianucci isn't doing it'. Got to the credits. He's not doing it.
The papers are happy but I honestly felt like the only sane person in the world.
Is that overstating it all a bit?

Same here. I had to text Tim just to check I wasn't going mad. I didn't laugh once.

Phew, i'm glad it wasn't just me then. It was pretty dire stuff. I'm hoping this weeks will be better, not that it would take much.

Re: The Magic Box of Phosphers
I was really giddy about it being on and for the 1st 5 mins I had a big grin slowly sliding off my face as is slowly dawned it wasn't just a slow start. It wasn't just a bit poor it was rubbish. By the end I was so upset the only pleasure I got was being right. It was a meagre morsel. I only watched to the end to check the credits.
I'm guessing here but I bet all the improvisation has gone. I knew by about half way through they now had a team of writers in (septic style) instead of Ianucci and the cast. It had no pace at all it was frantic and trying too hard instead of the stately semi-realism it used to have. Trying to cram in as many gags as possible is a crap americanism. Also trying too hard to mimic Ianucci's style but getting it dead wrong. You can call someone an 'omnishambles' in the middle of a rant and it is ace. But making almost every other phrase in that style was just unrealistic and shit.
I hope Ianuccio is getting loads of hookers and coke in america to justify my pain

Don't be paranoid man.
I thought it would be similar to the story of Senna but it was more comprehensively about the sport's safety issues.

Hahaa....sorry wasn't being paranod...get it - paranod....
Just told the story of how the drivers stood together and advanced safety in F1. Incredible years those, many died.
Thought it was crazy how the race continued when a driver was being burnt to death. How F1 has changed over the years.

It's awful. You should be sorry. It's a soap opera for girls masquerading as a period piece.

Peter Capaldi is so good he single-handedly rescues episode 2.
However I believe they are alternating so he's only in it every even number.
BBC can't afford him anymore

It doesn't work for me mainly because of Julian Fellows. He's an actor and a socialite and having watched a couple of episodes not in any way a historian, amateur or 'dramatic'. My main beef with Downton is it's just such bad history.

Re: The Magic Box of Phosphers
I watched the Three Rocketeers on iplayer last night:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01mqv45
It's the story of three British engineers who designed a fully resusable rocket. Very good viewing. Only get 4 days left on iplayer so watch it quick!

Re: The Magic Box of Phosphers
I am addicted to this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storage_Wars
The idea is that everywhere in America has these massive compounds full of storage units where people can store personal effects for whatever reason. From time to time these 'lockers' as they are called come up for auction as the renters stop paying their bills. During the auctions the doors are thrown open, all you can do is view from outside and they go to the highest bidder. Some of the suff that's found in them is amazing. Proper addictive viewing.

I might have seen this. Is this the programme where they all argue with each other and nearly start fighting? Proper New Yoikers.
