I've never seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, so i am unable to compare. The Wilder/Van Dyke contest is very one-sided for me. Go with Wonka.

I get the feeling Fandango is a professional objector.

It's one of those films that I was forced to watch as a kid because my sister loved it. I didn't as I was more into robots and explosions by then.
