Things You Were Scared Of Empty Things You Were Scared Of

Post  Sherrers Sun Apr 26, 2009 6:55 am

Nuclear War. In a proper having-nightmares-every-night-for-years way.
    Doctor Who. Who wasn't?
The Mirror at the end of the room in my first solo bedroom. It had a man with a green face in it.
One of my books had a scary cover and it had to have been my brother but it would find it's way out of the shelves and face outwards all the time.
The two Bulldogs up the street.
Pittsey. A psycho kid with a flick knife who lived nearby. But everyone was scared of him. He got put away for murder eventually surprise surprise.
When I was very small I was petrified of Dopey from Snow White apparently.
Doors that are slightly ajar in strange bedrooms, faces can peep round you know.
Having anything up my jap's eye. Actually that still makes me shudder.
Eyes that are too big. Marty Feldman used to make me gag.

Custard. I know! weird but it freaked me out at school. "Cowardly Custard" names a plenty.

Ghost Train. I couldn't even look at it never mind go on it.

Going Fast. I still don't like it.

    The dentist.

Scared the shit out of me when i was young and still does to this day. Im convinced a needle will break off in my gum or the fuckers hand will slip when drilling and he will drill right through into my brain. Gives me cold sweats just thinking about it. pale

Also the corkscrew at Alton towers. Cried like a baby every time we went cos my ma used to try to get me to go on it and i refused. When i grew a set and actually went on it i loved it. Very Happy

you know what mate that is fucking spooky!

I cannot even add up a handful of change. Been like that all my life. I got a "U" (unclassified) for Maths 'O" level which is a negative score. That mean I basically got all of them wrong and spelt my name wrong on the paper Wink
Although I was never scared of it after my Dad tested me and pronounced it was a 'problem' rather than me being thick.
Relationships ... don't Wink ditto. I'll settle for a weird one.
9-5... never ever had one. Ditto
Your Holyhead story made me piss! Same thing happened to us but it was a chippy and a drunk was bothering us and I'd never seen my Dad hit anyone before.

the bit in the incredible hulk (the tv series in the 80's) where he changed into the hulk (me and my cousin used to hide behind the sofa until he had finished changing)

having a bath - after having seen the film Jaws as a kid

wood lice and ear wigs and spiders - still am to this day, well not scared but wont touch them and cant be in a room with them near me without having to check for constant updates as their whereabouts

my mum's slipper if I'd been naughty, she was an excellant shot at throwing at a moving object (namely me).

roller coasters, mainly the bit where you go down a steep bit and it makes you feel like you are going to be sick

    Ha ha good topic.

    Things I was scared off.

Ear Wigs crawling inside my ears. Think it was a star trek film where they had a jar of these buggers which would crawl into you ear and eat you brain. Was terrified.

Hellraiser 2. The one where he starts of in the statue and rips of all the skin from that bird in the beginning. Then ends up going to that nightclub and causes some right carnage. Lots of bits in that film that scared me. Like right at the end where he pulls out a pin from his head and there is some brain attached. Can't remember if he eats it or sticks it through his hand.

Reading out loud in class. Was slightly dyslexic and found reading out load quite difficult. On one occasion I was reading out load in class and I came up on this word that I think was redish or something?! I said Radish. That was my new nickname for the next month or so. Plus I was new to the class so after that I felt embarrassed trying to make new friend.

Walking through really dark woods at night always gave me the shits. Same with really old houses. Use to clench my fists and would go through all these scenarios to what I would do if someone jumped out. Think I must watch to many horror films.

I was scared of being beaten in a fight. Or when I punch someone and it did not hurt them. Was not until a couple of years ago when traveling through Thailand. Got in a massive fight with a few Thai's. Took a supreme kicking. Remember getting one real corker of a punch in and and it had no effect. Ended up getting knocked out on edge of beach. On lookers pulled me out of the sea before calling an ambulance. Did not remember anything till the next day. Full on battered. Thinking about it now, it was not the best of country's to end up having a fight, as the Thai's are hard little bastards!

Probably have a few more up my sleeve will have to rack the brains though!!

I was going to pull loads of stuff on dyslexia off the net but there is bloody loads of it.

In a nutshell it was only relatively recently discovered (by post mortem, urg) that dyslexia is a physical ailment where the brain jumbles up what the eye sees. Jumble is a medical term Wink

The eye sort of substitutes and swaps around letters in words. When we read we actually take in the first few letters and construct the rest of the word from experience. Dyslexics regularly substitute too quickly and make a close but no cigar word.

It's is curable today with exercises. I've not seen them but it has something to do with covering one eye at a time (could be wrong on that).

A lot of people, right up until the 90's, we very dyslexic but schools did not have the medical training to spot it. So if it goes untreated from an early age someone can be considered a bad learner when in fact no amount of ordinary teaching will help them.

I've also heard that people end up winging it for so long they get very good at hiding it and it's hard to spot.

There's also a bit of a current backlash that bone idle fops cry "dyslexic!" when in fact they are just lazy Wink (just kidding) There are tests online by the boatload.

Sorry if that is a bit vague just trying to paraphrase, I'm not a real doctor.

Now you can pop your clothes back on.

Ha ha reminds me of when a certain young lady stuck her tongue down my throat when I was about 11 or 12. Looking back now I could have had some right fun with her. Unfortunately at the time she scared the hell out of me!
