The last time i went in there they had turned it in to a bit of a family pub type affair, all garish carpets and flat screen TV's. Shite, basically. Myfavoruite Ponte pub was the Counting House but sadly that is no more.

Not really no. I'll have a think, but i'll drink anywhere really, never been one for old pubs or tradition. I cut my teeth in Rothwell, they are all diabolical.

Jolly Butcher! you took me there! great pub. http://jollybutchers.co.uk/

When Fabrics first opened (is it 13 years?) there wasn't much in the way of afters so we used to go with Tubbsy and Nikki to all the proper Butcher's pubs that were open at stupid o'clock.

Going to The Hope, Rising Sun or Butcher's Hook was a lot different then. When there were about 6 of us with eyes like frisbees and the rest of the place packed with geezers in bloody aprons at 7am. We even went to the (Cock Tavern?) down the stairs inside the market that is more like a social/working men's club with drinks that cost nearly nothing. Proper.

    Well dodge ;

This used to be my favourite Sunday afternoon/vevening haunt when I lived back in Bradford. Great 'first date' pub. Worked like a charm. Old school charm hidden away in a valley with a stream running by Smile

The Hewett Arms. Lovely pub in summer. You can sit out by the lakes.

Located on a complex with three fishing lakes which i used to fish. The old fucker that owned it used to drive round once fishing had been closed for the day and get as close as he could to you with his car to ask you if you were nearly done as it was time to leave. If you werent quite finished packing up he would run over your rods and fishing gear and pretend he hadnt seen them.

I once saw him fall in when he was pissed.

Its not, I promise you. The banks are pretty much level with the water so it does look that way.

I also had a fight with the bailiff once, because I had strayed into a field and was looking at another lake which we werent allowed to fish. The week after when i turned up he didnt recognise me and actually showed us a secret pond that only a handful of people were allowed up to. Silly man.

I've been in shit loads of pubs travelling away with Leeds. Most of them proper ropey but the only pub where I have ever genuinely been fearful for my life was this one in Bratfud

    best pubs - Page 2 F3f5a5255321cf71e86b89c7622d10f4

We stumbled in one Saturday night for what reason I have no idea, safe to say we had one drink and disappeared quickly. Full of proper shady pikeys who took an unhealthy interest in us.

The New Beehive in Bradford was a favourite haunt during my teenage years. Upstairs was real ale central. One eyed old blokes with ropey dogs drinking ale that smelled like sweaty socks. No TV, no jukebox.

    best pubs - Page 2 Bradford-New%20Beehive-Exterior

But, downstairs was this amazing cellar type venue which you entered through a back door. We used to put on parties on a Friday night into Saturday morning. The son of the guy who owned the pub was proper into the house scene so he'd let us crack on until the last person had enough. It was in a pretty rough area of town so we used to get some right characters coming along.

I think I may be straying from the topic here, but it's a bit quiet so here goes.

Me and my mate were once meeting up in this pub.

best pubs - Page 2 Melborn

He got there before me only to find some old guy hobbling to the toilets with fresh turds dropping from his trouser leg. Next thing the landlady appears with a mop and bucket, looks at my mate and says 'well love, it happens to the best of us' mops up, parks the mop and bucket at the side of the bar and says 'okay love, what can I get you'?

This was another favourite Saturday afternoon haunt in Bradford. The Shoulder of Mutton

    best pubs - Page 2 10492511

I could only ever go in when Bradford City were playing away or I'd get beaten up, so that added a bit of extra spice Smile

The reason for visiting said pub was that it was full of absolute fruitcakes, so was good for a laugh, and it also served 13.5% Ayingerbrau pils. So you could get pised for a tenner.

    Ace.
