Re: Tresor - Berlin
They're celebrating their 19th birthday soon, so they must be doing something right!
I've heard good reports about it, think it's a bit more 'proper' techno than other clubs in Berlin

It can be quite old school, but I've had a very good time there.

Re: Tresor - Berlin
Am planning a trip to Berlin in October but will be there for only one weekend so am sussing out which clubs to visit! Is Tresor any good or should I give it a swerve? There are so many to choose form, Cocoon, Watergate, Panorama.

Cocoon is in Frankfurt, isn't it?
Tresor is very banging. Maria un Umfer is very banging. I enjoyed both, particularly a shitkatapult night that ended with someone pulling the cakingly awful live act off by Germanically shouting "THE NEXT ACT MUST COME ON. YOU ARE ANNOYING THEM!".
Embarrasingly I've never been to Berghain, and I've only been to offices of Watergate, not a night in the club itself.
Major works in dance music FAIL, yes.

yes Cocoon is in Frankfurt
Tresor is a club who's bookings tend to be harder styles of techno or more underground stuff.
Berghain/Panorama tends to have a lot of the big hitters but can be a bit more commercial and the music is a bit more tech-house orientated, also can be a cunt to get in with a very unpredictable bouncers/door policy.
Watergate line ups seem to be a bit more commercial still.

Re: Tresor - Berlin
sorry mate, that's utter horseshit about berghain/panorama bar and watergate are far from commerical
berghain is the techno part where people like luke slater, adam beyer, len faki, ben klock and marcel dettman play
panorama bar is at the top of the old power station, and thats more housey with people like ame, dixon, cassy, ricardo villalobos,2000 and one etc play, this is the part of the club that cracks on well into monday, even tuesday on some occasions.
it is quite hard to get into, some girls infront of us in the queue had been turned away earlier, so they went home changed some clothes and queued back up in got in
here's the resident advisor page for it: http://www.residentadvisor.net/club-detail.aspx?id=5031
watergate also has two parts, the watefloor which is river level, the river spree comes up to some of the windows near the back
and then they have the top floor which the light panel is in, and it has to been seen, mint's light panel looks like a 99p woolworths version compared to this one this is the resident advisor page: http://www.residentadvisor.net/club-detail.aspx?id=3213
again watergate can be quite hard to get in too, and the bouncers will ask who you've come to see play, so read up before you go out.
they are the two best clubs i've ever been too by far
we also went to weekend on the friday which is on the 12th floor of an office block, so when the sun comes up you have a view of all around berlin while the music is still going on
http://www.residentadvisor.net/club-detail.aspx?id=3067
there loads of other clubs to check out, arena club has some decent line-ups its behind the berlin arena
http://www.residentadvisor.net/club-detail.aspx?id=5828
and there's dice which has recently opened http://www.residentadvisor.net/club-detail.aspx?id=14694
oh and its a lot cheaper to go out in berlin then it is in leeds, watergate was €15 and berghain/panaorama bar was €12
drinks/food/taxis/transport infact everything is cheaper
hope that helps

Re: Tresor - Berlin
I have been to tresor twice - first time was brilliant because it was busy and had a wicked atmos. The second time was pants cos it was really quiet as they had no 'headliner' on...the music was still good though. But yes...much harder than the other 'main' clubs in Berlin, really cool setting but you must be into serious techno or you may find it a bit over powering at times.
My 2 pence anyways! I'm going to the bar now....

Cheers Mundros, hope you are enjoying your travels. Think I might pay it a visit. Will look for a good night though. Really enjoyed seeing Jeff Mills live.
