    "Gasp".
It's an exclamation, an inhalation of breath, you don't actually say the word.

I dredged up some copies of the Beano. Check these out.

Real Words As Used in The Beano

My young next door neighbour is particularly fond of calling everyone a 'dinghy' in a thick Yorkshire accent. Sounds even better when slurred and with veiled threats of violence in the local pub on his 18th birthday!

Just 'cos I've not heard it doesn't mean it doesn't exist outside Bradford.

Perhaps our panel of experts can assist?

Mind you since Scott flounced off we are short on proper Yorkshire.

I can confirm laking or lekking was alive and well in Leeds around the early 1980s

    Example:
Mates knocking on my door and asking my mum "is your Jim laking out?"

    It's better spelt phonetically.

    I have heard of Lekkin.

Laking sounds like punting around Roundhay reciting poetry to weeping aunties.
